45 Things to Share for My 45th Birthday

Shannon Carlton

Today, Friday the 13th, I turn 45! I have a tradition of sharing lessons learned in my birthday posts these past five years, so in the grand tradition, here you go:

  • You are in charge of YOU. Your thoughts are not controlled by anyone else
  • Real, authentic friends make your world a better place
  • Gravity makes EVERYTHING droop :(
  • Stay AWAY from the rabbit hole. Recognize it but don’t go in!
  • Be open to abundance around you
  • Make time to spend with your family
  • Moisturize!
  • Growth hurts like hell, but staying stuck destroys
  • Don’t discuss politics, like EVER!
  • Don’t get sucked into panic and not buy Corona because there is a virus with the same name
  • Stay in your lane. Run the race before you. Don’t run anyone else’s race or envy their race
  • Write that book! Why not?!
  • Yes, we are all going to die. The point is to live!
  • You can cry and keep working. Keep striving, keep swimming. Let the tears fall
  • Do the thing and you shall have the power! Or as Nike says Just Do It
  • When you’re stuck, take a class, read a book, listen to a podcast anything you can do to keep moving and stay away from the rabbit hole
  • Try new things
  • Visit new places https://www.atlasobscura.com/things-to-do/florida
  • Act silly
  • Meditate
  • Practice gratitude every.single.day
  • Practice kindness every.single.day
  • If they will do it with you, they will do it to you!
  • Look for lessons learned every day (like what did you mess up that you can fix)
  • Learn sales (no matter what you do)
  • Pray!
  • Try new recipes, enjoy cooking!
  • Wake up before the rest of the world
  • Love on a puppy
  • Create processes that will help you be successful
  • Trust the process! It sucks and takes time but trust it
  • Don’t take things personally. It’s really NOT about you
  • Exercise! (it helps with #3)
  • Ask for help. Be willing to receive help when it is offered
  • Learn a new skill every year
  • Therapy is cool!
  • Read fiction. Read non-fiction
  • Get lost on a Sunday
  • Go on a trip for fun
  • Plan out your weekly menu, makes for a much easier grocery run and your family won’t have to ask every night what’s for dinner because it’s already planned
  • Love unconditionally
  • You are not meant for everyone, and everyone isn’t meant for you
  • Let go
  • Eat healthy most of the time and then when you eat like a king enjoy every bite
  • You get one shot at this life, my friends. Fail as much as you can, love as hard as possible, give of yourself to help someone else, never let fear dictate what you are willing to try.
